Klaviyo pricing: what it really costs
As of 26 September 2026, Klaviyo's paid Email plan starts at $20 a month for 500 active profiles and climbs with your list, reaching $860 a month once you need the 60,000-profile tier. SMS and MMS are billed separately through a prepaid Mobile Messaging plan, and an AI agent, a customer hub, social tools and reviews are each extra on top of Email. There is no annual-billing discount for self-serve accounts. For a Shopify or WooCommerce store with roughly 10,000 active profiles, the $150-a-month tier is the right starting point.

What you will really pay
What a business actually pays for Klaviyo each month at three sizes, with every line of the bill shown. Built from the prices above as of 26 September 2026; open “How we worked this out” under any total for the assumptions.
Solo operator, 1,000 active profiles
$30 / month
high confidence- Email plan — 1,000 active profiles$30
Plan: Email (1,000 active profiles) · billed monthly.
How we worked this out
One person, about 1,000 active profiles and roughly 4 campaigns/month, billed month to month. Klaviyo's Email plan is priced by active-profile count, not seats; the 1,000-profile tier includes 10,000 emails/month, above ~4 campaigns x 1,000 profiles = 4,000 sends. Composer, Customer Hub, Social Marketing and Reviews are all optional add-ons a solo operator could skip entirely; none is included here.
Small team, 10,000 active profiles
$150 / month
high confidence- Email plan — 10,000 active profiles$150
Plan: Email (10,000 active profiles) · billed monthly.
How we worked this out
About 10,000 active profiles and roughly 8 campaigns/month, billed month to month. The 10,000-profile tier includes 100,000 emails/month, above ~8 campaigns x 10,000 profiles = 80,000 sends. Composer ($20/month) or Customer Hub ($20/month at the introductory rate) are optional and not included; neither is required to send email.
Growing team, 50,000 active profiles
$860 / month
high confidence- Email plan — 60,000-profile tier (600,000 emails/month)$860
Plan: Email (60,000 active profiles) · billed monthly.
How we worked this out
About 50,000 active profiles and roughly 12 campaigns/month to the full list, i.e. about 600,000 email sends/month, billed month to month. The 50,000-profile tier includes only 500,000 emails/month, so the send volume, not the profile count, forces the 60,000-profile tier ($860/month, 600,000 emails/month). Klaviyo lets you upgrade to a larger tier at any time, and auto-upgrade is on by default, so an account on the 50,000 tier sending this volume would be moved up anyway. If campaigns go to segments rather than the full list and total sends stay under 500,000/month, the 50,000-profile tier at $720/month is enough. Staying on that tier and using flexible sending for the extra 100,000 emails would cost about $144 on top (100,000 x $720 / 500,000 emails), more than the $140 difference to the 60,000 tier. Add-ons (Composer, Customer Hub, Social Marketing, Reviews) are optional and not included.
What actually counts as an “active profile”?
Klaviyo doesn’t price by seats or by everyone who has ever landed in your database — it prices by active profiles, a metric that is narrower than “everyone I’ve collected” but wider than “people I actually email.” Klaviyo’s help center splits active profiles into two groups: subscribers who explicitly opted in, and profiles added through general engagement, such as a shopper who abandoned checkout or placed an order without checking a marketing box. Both types count toward your paid tier, whether or not you ever send them a campaign.
That is the detail most buyers miss when they estimate their bill. A store connected through Shopify or WooCommerce can add profiles automatically from checkout traffic alone, before anyone subscribes to anything. Simply not emailing someone does not lower your bill; the only two things that do are suppressing or deleting them, which is also the one lever Klaviyo gives you to avoid being pushed onto a bigger tier, covered next.
How fast does the bill climb as your list grows?
Klaviyo’s paid Email plan runs on a continuous scale, not a small set of named plans: $20 a month gets you 500 active profiles, and the price rises from there to $860 once you’re in the 60,000-profile band, with custom Enterprise pricing above 150,000. In that upper range the slider moves in 5,000-profile increments, so the bill can jump between the round numbers buyers usually quote.
Each tier also includes email sends equal to ten times its profile count, so a list that grows in step with how often you email it rarely forces an early upgrade on volume alone. It can still happen: the growing-team bill above sits on the 60,000-profile tier, not the cheaper 50,000-profile one, because campaigning to the full list roughly twelve times a month runs past the sends that tier includes — the sending schedule forced the upgrade, not the profile count.
The bigger trap is what Klaviyo calls profile compliance. If your active-profile count outgrows your current tier, Klaviyo moves you to the next tier up automatically at the start of your next billing cycle, whether or not you had turned on any upgrade preference. The only way to stay put is to suppress or delete enough profiles before the cycle renews — once you are over the line, the upgrade itself is not optional.
Which Email tier should your business actually budget for?
A freelancer or solo creator with roughly 1,000 subscribers and a handful of campaigns a month fits the tier behind the solo bill above. A small ecommerce store, or an agency running a single client’s list, both usually sitting around 10,000 active profiles, fit the tier behind the small-team bill. Past that point, budget by sending frequency as well as list size, not list size alone — the growing-team bill above is the clearest example of that, and the previous section explains why.
Add-ons don’t belong in this first calculation. Composer, Customer Hub, Social Marketing and Reviews are all optional, and none of them is required to send email or SMS — a buyer who only wants core email and SMS marketing can ignore all four when picking a starting tier and add them later if a specific feature earns its keep.
Why is SMS a second bill, not a feature of the Email plan?
SMS and MMS run on a separate Klaviyo product, Mobile Messaging, billed apart from Email and not included in any Email tier’s price. You prepay a monthly plan spend, and every send draws down that spend at a rate set by country, channel, and, in the US and Canada, whether you’re texting from a toll-free number or a short code; a US toll-free SMS segment costs $0.01, with carrier fees already folded into that rate instead of added as a separate line on your invoice.
The catch: Mobile Messaging spend does not roll over. Unused budget resets every billing cycle, so overbuying wastes money and underbuying means an overage charge or paused sends. Klaviyo offers a flexible-sending option that bills you once for extra capacity instead of pausing, but it only kicks in once your Mobile Messaging plan is large enough — small senders don’t get that safety valve. Klaviyo’s own calculator has not shown usable MMS, WhatsApp or RCS rates, so confirm those with Klaviyo directly before you commit to them.
What else gets added on top of Email?
Composer, Klaviyo’s AI agent, costs $20 a month flat on top of any Email tier, metered in AI credits rather than a fixed number of actions; unused credits expire at the end of the billing period, and going over costs $10 per extra 1,000 credits if you opt in. Customer Hub and Social Marketing are also priced by active-profile count, but on their own, coarser tiers: when we checked on , both showed introductory rates at the 10,000-profile mark — $20 for Customer Hub and $38 for Social Marketing — running only through 30 September 2026 per Klaviyo’s pricing page. Their list prices are $30 and $50; budget for those once the introductory window closes. Reviews is priced differently again, by monthly order volume rather than profiles, starting at $25 a month for Shopify and WooCommerce stores sending up to 250 orders.
None of this comes with an annual-prepay discount. Klaviyo’s self-serve pricing, Email included, is month-to-month only, with no toggle anywhere for paying yearly — a real gap if you’re used to tools that reward paying yearly. The only route to a different billing cycle is manual billing, arranged through a Klaviyo representative once your combined plans reach $2,000 a month, and Klaviyo has not published a discount for choosing it.
How does Klaviyo compare with the tools people actually put next to it?
Kit prices Creator at $39 a month and Creator Pro at $79, both for up to 1,000 subscribers and rising at higher subscriber counts, and it has no SMS product at all — a simpler bill than Klaviyo’s, but one that never covers text messaging. ActiveCampaign pairs email marketing with a CRM and prices by contact count much like Klaviyo does: $15 a month for 1,000 contacts, rising to $149 at 10,000, both billed annually, since ActiveCampaign’s public pricing page shows only the annual rate. Mailchimp is the other common cross-shop: its Standard plan comes to $135 a month for 10,000 contacts, against $150 for Klaviyo at the same list size. For more options, including all-in-one platforms that fold email and SMS into a bigger CRM, see our Klaviyo alternatives page.
Add-ons, usage and other costs
7 paid add-onsKlaviyo sells on top of the plans, with the price and what each is charged per.
| Add-on | Price | Charged | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Composer (AI marketing agent add-on) | $20 | per month, flat (layers onto any Email plan; not priced by active profiles) | Every account also gets a smaller free Composer allotment automatically; this $20/month upgrade gives 4x that free allotment (help.klaviyo.com, source 22). Usage is metered in dynamic AI credits rather than a fixed action count — Klaviyo's own published ranges put 'Create a campaign' at $0.10–$10.00 and 'Analyze data' at $0.35–$0.90 per action (source 22). Unused credits expire at the end of each billing period. |
| Composer: additional usage (Flexible Overage) | $10 | per 1,000 credits, charged once you exceed your Composer plan's monthly credit allotment | Optional; only applies if you opt in to Flexible Overages. Klaviyo bills the full $10 at the time of use regardless of how much of the 1,000-credit increment you actually need, and repeated overages in one billing period each incur their own $10 charge. You can opt out and instead pause Composer until the next billing cycle. |
| Customer Hub | $20 | per month for up to 10,000 active profiles (scales up with active-profile count) | Plans: Email (500 active profiles), Email (1,000 active profiles), Email (10,000 active profiles), Email (50,000 active profiles), Email (60,000 active profiles). Klaviyo's help center: 'Customer Hub is priced based on your active profile count, starting at $20 per month for up to 10,000 active profiles' (source 14). On the pricing calculator the same tier shows a $30 list price cut 30% to $20 as 'special introductory pricing ... through 09/30/2026' (sources 2-4), so the price after that date may be $30. At 50,000 active profiles the calculator showed $123 list / $86 discounted, and at 60,000 profiles $147 list / $103 discounted (sources 5, 6). The calculator also labels Customer Hub 'FREE 30-DAY TRIAL'. |
| Social Marketing | $38 | per month at the 10,000-active-profile tier shown on the calculator (25%-off introductory rate); Klaviyo says full pricing scales with active-profile count but publishes no separate starting figure | Plans: Email (500 active profiles), Email (1,000 active profiles), Email (10,000 active profiles), Email (50,000 active profiles), Email (60,000 active profiles). List price $50/month at this tier, discounted 25% to $38 as 'special introductory pricing ... through 09/30/2026' (source 2). Social Marketing has its own coarser profile tiers: its card still read '10,000 profiles' while the Email slider was at 500 or 1,000, read 50,000 profiles ($200 list / $150 discounted) at the 50,000 Email setting, and jumped to 150,000 profiles ($300 list / $225 discounted) at the 60,000 Email setting (sources 5, 6). |
| Reviews | $25 | per month for up to 250 orders/month (Shopify and WooCommerce stores only) | Priced by monthly store order volume, not active profiles (source 14). Pricing above the 250-order tier shown by default on the calculator was not captured. |
| Professional support package | $500 | per month, starting price ('Contact sales' for an exact quote) | Adds 2-24hr priority email response, weekend live chat during local business hours, one dedicated training session per year and a deliverability strategist on request, on top of the Standard support included with paid plans. |
| Enterprise support package | $1,800 | per month, starting price ('Contact sales' for an exact quote) | Adds 1–12hr priority email response, 24/7 weekend live chat, two dedicated training sessions per year, and a dedicated solutions architect plus deliverability team. |
1 usage-based charge: what Klaviyo bills per unit on top of the subscription.
| Usage | Rate | Per | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outbound SMS — US, toll-free number | $0.010 | per SMS segment sent to a US recipient from a toll-free number (carrier fees included) | The calculator shows '$0.01 + carrier fees* per send', with the footnote '*Price includes carrier fees where applicable'; Klaviyo's mobile-messaging FAQ confirms carrier fees are included in rates with no separate line item (source 19), and long messages are billed per segment (source 18). The calculator rounds to whole cents and did not say which Mobile Messaging subscription size this rate belongs to; Klaviyo says rates vary by country, channel, number type (toll-free vs short code) and plan size, with volume discounts on larger plans (source 19). SMS is sold through a prepaid monthly Mobile Messaging subscription, not pure pay-as-you-go. MMS, WhatsApp and RCS rates showed as $0.00 on the calculator and were not recorded (see unverified). |
Other costs that change the real bill: fees, processing and one-time charges.
| Cost | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Email flexible-sending overage (optional) | Variable — next tier's extra email capacity, billed once at your plan's per-email unit rate | Only applies if you choose 'Flexible sending' as your upgrade preference and then send more emails in a month than your tier includes. Klaviyo's worked example: an $80/month plan entitling 35,000 emails (a $1.14-per-thousand unit rate) that needs 10,000 more emails is charged for the next tier's 15,000-email increment: 15,000 x ($1.14 / 1,000) = $17.10 (source 17). The alternatives are auto-upgrade (on by default for new subscriptions; permanently moves you to a larger tier, source 23) or 'None' (sending stops until the next billing cycle). |
Billing rules worth knowing
- Self-serve Klaviyo plans are billed and renew monthly; the pricing calculator has no annual toggle and shows no annual-prepay discount for Email, Composer, Customer Hub, Social Marketing or Reviews. Contracted ('manually billed') accounts, available only at $2,000/month or more, can have monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual billing cycles set in the contract; any discount for those is not published.
- Klaviyo enforces 'profile compliance': if your active-profile count exceeds your current Email plan's tier, you are automatically moved to a profile-compliant (more expensive) tier at the start of your next billing cycle, whether or not you opted into any auto-upgrade preference. The only way to avoid it is to suppress or delete enough profiles at least 24 hours before your billing cycle renews.
- For email-send overages (sending more emails than your profile tier includes, while still within your profile limit), you choose one of: Flexible sending (a one-time charge for the next tier's extra sends, at your current plan's per-unit rate), Auto-upgrade (permanently moves you to a larger tier; on by default when you first buy a subscription), or 'None' (stops sending until the next billing cycle). You can also manually upgrade to a larger tier at any time; upgrades take effect immediately and you pay the difference for that first month.
- As of this check (2026-09-26), Customer Hub is discounted 30% and Social Marketing 25% off their list prices, and the Email plan carries a $19-off first-month promo at the 500-profile tier only; Klaviyo's site says these run 'through 09/30/2026' — i.e., about to end within days of this check.
- Cancelling immediately (rather than at the end of the billing cycle) forfeits the rest of the paid cycle with no refund; cancelling at the end of the cycle keeps the plan active, and billed, through its last day.
- Self-serve customers pay month to month by credit card with no long-term contract. 'Manual billing' (an invoiced contract, ACH or wire) is only available once combined Klaviyo plans total $2,000/month or more, and is arranged through a Klaviyo representative rather than self-serve checkout.
- Klaviyo's pricing FAQ, asked whether there are setup or onboarding fees, answers 'We do not charge hidden fees. Some plans include onboarding support — for larger implementations, we offer optional paid professional services.' No setup fee appears anywhere on the pricing calculator.
- Composer, Customer Hub, Social Marketing, Reviews, Helpdesk, Marketing Analytics and Advanced Klaviyo Data Platform are all separate line items from the core Email plan; none is required to send email. This record captures the ones most relevant to an email-marketing buyer (Composer, Customer Hub, Social Marketing, Reviews) and scopes out the Service/Data-platform products (Helpdesk, Customer Agent, Marketing Analytics, Advanced KDP).

Automated re-check on : all 1 prices we re-read were still on Klaviyo's pages.
- MMS, WhatsApp (marketing and transactional) and RCS (Basic and Single) per-message rates: the pricing calculator displayed all four at a literal $0.00 + carrier fees per send at every tier we checked, which we don't believe is the real rate (Klaviyo's own help center says MMS costs more to send than SMS). We could not get the calculator to render a non-zero, channel-specific number, so these were left out of usage[] rather than record a figure we don't trust.
- Full profile-tier price tables for Customer Hub and Social Marketing beyond the single data points captured (their displayed tier breakpoints don't move in lockstep with the Email plan's own slider), and Reviews pricing above the 250-orders/month tier.
- Mobile Messaging's own subscription tiers and starting price: SMS is bought as a prepaid monthly Mobile Messaging plan, but Klaviyo's help articles give only example amounts ('$115 Mobile Messaging plan', a '$900/month plan'), and the calculator's Mobile messages card showed 'Monthly cost $40.00' without stating the message volume behind it, so no Mobile Messaging subscription price went into addOns.
- Marketing Analytics (help center: starting at $100/month for up to 13,500 active profiles), Advanced Klaviyo Data Platform (help center example: $4,765/month for 1,000,000 profiles), Helpdesk (starting at $10/month for up to 50 tickets) and Customer Agent (starting at $50/month for up to 75 conversations) all have published starting prices in Klaviyo's help center, but this record is scoped to the Email/Marketing side of Klaviyo and does not verify or include these Service/Data-platform products as add-ons.
- Whether a visitor with a genuine non-US geo-IP sees a different currency or price on klaviyo.com; see the regional note. Only US-locale/egress sessions were captured.
- Exact Professional and Enterprise support-package prices beyond the published 'starting at $500/month' and 'starting at $1,800/month' figures; both require 'Contact sales' for a final quote.
- Whether a payment card is required to create a free account: the captured sign-up page shows only the first form step (email and password). Klaviyo's help center says no card is needed to start the free Composer plan, but that article is about Composer, not account sign-up.
- Whether the introductory Customer Hub ($20) and Social Marketing ($38 at 10,000 profiles) prices continue after 09/30/2026; the calculator's list prices at those tiers are $30 and $50.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Klaviyo cost per month?
Klaviyo's Email plan is priced by active-profile count rather than seats, starting at $20 a month for 500 active profiles. The price climbs on a continuous scale as your list grows: $30 a month at 1,000 profiles, $150 at 10,000, $720 at 50,000, and $860 once you need the 60,000-profile tier. Above 150,000 active profiles, Klaviyo stops publishing a number and quotes custom Enterprise pricing through its sales team instead. Email, SMS and every add-on, including an AI agent, a customer hub, social tools and reviews, are billed as separate line items, so your total bill is the Email tier plus whatever add-ons and SMS volume you actually use, not one flat platform fee.
Is Klaviyo free to use?
Yes. Klaviyo's Free plan has no time limit, as long as your account stays at or under 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month. It also includes $5 of mobile-messaging usage and $5 of Composer AI usage each month at no charge. Going over 250 active profiles or 500 monthly sends blocks further sending until you're back under the limit or you upgrade to a paid Email tier, starting at $20 a month for 500 active profiles. Full email support is included only for the first 60 days after signup; after that, free accounts get Klaviyo's Community and Help Center but not direct support. There's no separate free trial of the paid plan, since the free plan effectively serves that role.
What counts as an active profile in Klaviyo?
An active profile is anyone Klaviyo's system can reach by email, not just people who subscribed to your list. Klaviyo's help center defines two kinds: subscribers who explicitly opted in, and profiles added through general engagement, such as a shopper who abandoned checkout or placed an order without checking a marketing box. Both count toward your paid tier whether or not you actually send them a campaign, which means a Shopify or WooCommerce store can build up billable profiles from checkout traffic alone. Profiles you suppress or delete stop counting toward your tier; profiles you simply stop emailing do not, because an unemailed contact is still counted as reachable until you remove them from your active list.
Why is SMS billed separately from Klaviyo's Email plan?
SMS and MMS run on Klaviyo's Mobile Messaging product, a separate monthly subscription from the Email plan, so no Email tier includes any text-message volume. You prepay a monthly plan spend, and each send draws it down at a rate that varies by country, channel and, in the US and Canada, whether you're sending from a toll-free number or a short code; a US toll-free SMS segment costs $0.01, with carrier fees already built into that rate. Unused monthly spend does not roll over into the next billing cycle, so overbuying wastes money and underbuying means an overage charge or paused sends. Klaviyo's calculator has not shown reliable MMS, WhatsApp or RCS rates, so get an exact quote from Klaviyo before budgeting for those channels.
What happens if my active profiles go over my Klaviyo plan's limit?
Klaviyo enforces what it calls profile compliance: if your active-profile count exceeds your current Email plan's tier, you're moved automatically to the next, more expensive tier at the start of your next billing cycle, regardless of which upgrade preference you had selected. Paid accounts keep sending through the cycle where the overage happened; only free accounts get blocked from sending immediately once they're over their limit. The only way to avoid the automatic upgrade is to suppress or delete enough profiles to get back under your tier's limit at least 24 hours before your billing cycle renews. You can also upgrade to a larger tier manually at any time, which takes effect immediately and is charged at the difference for that first month.
Does Klaviyo offer a discount for paying yearly?
No. Klaviyo's self-serve plans, including Email, Composer, Customer Hub, Social Marketing and Reviews, are billed and renew monthly, and the pricing calculator has no annual-billing toggle or yearly discount for any of them. The only way to a different billing cycle is manual billing, an invoiced contract paid by ACH or wire, which Klaviyo only makes available once your combined plans total $2,000 a month or more, arranged through a Klaviyo representative rather than self-serve checkout. Klaviyo has not published a discount for choosing manual billing over monthly self-serve billing, so buyers below that spending threshold should plan around the monthly Email price with no yearly-prepay option at all.
How much do Klaviyo's Composer, Customer Hub and other add-ons cost?
Composer, Klaviyo's AI agent, is $20 a month flat on top of any Email tier, metered in AI credits that expire each billing period, with $10-per-1,000-credit overage available if you opt in. Customer Hub and Social Marketing both scale with active-profile count on their own tiers; at the 10,000-profile mark, Klaviyo's pricing page showed introductory rates of $20 and $38, discounted off list prices of $30 and $50, running only through 30 September 2026. Reviews is priced by monthly order volume instead of profiles, starting at $25 a month for up to 250 orders on Shopify or WooCommerce. None of these four add-ons is required to send email or SMS; a buyer who only wants core email marketing can skip all of them.
