Semrush pricing: what it really costs

Quick answer

As of 26 September 2026, Semrush's cheapest paid plan, SEO, costs $139.95 a month for one user, 5 websites and 500 keywords tracked daily. Add AI-search visibility tracking across ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity and the price becomes $199 a month on Starter, with the same 500-keyword cap. Tracking more than 500 keywords forces a jump to Pro+ at $299 a month regardless of budget. Every plan includes only one login, and extra users cost $45 to $100 a month depending on the plan. An agency or freelancer tracking around 500 keywords for one client should start on plain SEO, not Starter, unless AI-search visibility is something a client specifically pays for.

FreeNo credit card required. The Analytics reports allow 10 requests a day, against 3,000 on SEO, 5,000 on Pro+ and 10,000 on Advanced (per the pricing FAQ). Free — per month 1 demo project; 10 reports per day across all vital tools; 1 website to create and monitor; 10 keywords in Position Tracking
SEOSEO-only plan, called SEO Toolkit (SEO Classic) in Semrush's knowledge base. It has the same price and limits as the older SEO Toolkit Pro. The monthly toggle shows $139.95 (source 2). The annual toggle shows $117.33/mo billed annually (source 1), and there the card rounds the monthly price down to 'instead of $139 monthly'. The plan card lists AI search tracking, sentiment and 'Monitor custom prompts', but the comparison table gives it no custom-prompt quota and no AI Analysis reports. $139.95 $117.33per month per month1 seat included 5 websites to monitor; 500 keywords to track daily; 100,000 pages to crawl per month (20,000 per monitored website); 10,000 results per report; 3,000 reports per day; 250 keyword metric updates per month; No historical data, no API access; 1 user included; extra users $45/user per month
Starter (SEO + AI Search)Same SEO limits as the SEO plan, with the AI Visibility Toolkit added. Monthly price from source 2; $165.17/mo billed annually from source 1. $199 $165.17per month per month1 seat included 5 websites to monitor; 500 keywords to track daily; 50 AI prompts tracked daily; 1 domain for AI brand performance; 300 AI visibility reports per day; 100,000 pages to crawl per month; 10,000 results per report; 3,000 reports per day; 1 user included; extra users $45/user per month (SEO access only)
Pro+ (SEO + AI Search)Lowest plan that tracks more than 500 keywords. Monthly price from source 2; $248.17/mo billed annually from source 1. Its SEO limits (15 sites, 1,500 keywords, 300,000 pages, 30,000 results) match those listed for the older SEO Toolkit Guru plan in Semrush's knowledge base. $299 $248.17per month per month1 seat included 15 websites to monitor; 1,500 keywords to track daily; 100 AI prompts tracked daily; 300,000 pages to crawl per month; 30,000 results per report; 5,000 reports per day; 1,000 keyword metric updates per month; 1 user included; extra users $80/user per month (SEO access only)

What you will really pay

What a business actually pays for Semrush each month at three sizes, with every line of the bill shown. Built from the prices above as of 26 September 2026; open “How we worked this out” under any total for the assumptions.

Solo

Solo: 1 user, up to 3 sites, ~500 tracked keywords

$139.95 / month

high confidence
  • SEO plan (monthly)$139.95

Plan: SEO · billed monthly.

How we worked this out

One user tracking about 500 keywords across 1–3 sites, billed month to month. The SEO plan covers 5 websites and 500 keywords tracked daily with 1 user included, so nothing else is needed. 500 keywords is exactly the SEO plan's cap, which leaves no headroom. Starter ($199/mo) has the same keyword cap and adds AI Visibility. Paid annually, the SEO plan works out to $117.33/mo.

Small team

Small team: 2 users, ~5 sites, ~1,500 tracked keywords

$379 / month

high confidence
  • Pro+ plan (monthly)$299
  • 1 additional user on Pro+ (1 × $80)$80

Plan: Pro+ (SEO + AI Search) · billed monthly.

How we worked this out

Two users, about 5 sites and 1,500 tracked keywords, billed month to month. SEO and Starter both stop at 500 tracked keywords, so the 1,500-keyword limit forces Pro+ (15 websites, 1,500 keywords, 1 user included). The second user costs $80/month on Pro+ and gets SEO features only. Giving the second user AI Visibility access would add $99 (per Semrush's KB). Paid annually: $248.17 plan + $80 user = $328.17/mo, assuming user prices stay the same, as the comparison table shows.

Growing team

Growing team: 4 users, ~15 sites, ~5,000 tracked keywords

$849 / month

high confidence
  • Advanced plan (monthly)$549
  • 3 additional users on Advanced (3 × $100)$300

Plan: Advanced (SEO + AI Search) · billed monthly.

How we worked this out

Four users, about 15 sites and 5,000 tracked keywords, billed month to month. Pro+ would cover 15 websites but only 1,500 keywords, so the keyword count forces Advanced (40 websites, 5,000 keywords, 1 user included). The three extra users cost $100 each on Advanced: 3 × $100 = $300. Extra users get SEO features only. Giving all three AI Visibility access would add 3 × $99 = $297. Paid annually: $455.67 + $300 = $755.67/mo, if user prices are the same on annual billing (the comparison table shows the same $100/user under both toggles).

Which Semrush plan matches your keyword-tracking workload?

Semrush sells its core product as one free account, four self-serve paid tiers and a custom Enterprise tier above them, and the number that decides which paid tier fits is how many keywords you track, not how big your team is. The free plan is not a real starting point: 10 reports a day across the main tools, one website and 10 keywords in Position Tracking, enough to try the interface, not to run anyone’s SEO. The first plan built for real work is SEO at $139.95 a month: 5 websites, 500 keywords tracked daily, one user included, which matches a solo consultant’s workload exactly, at $139.95 for the real bill above. Go past 500 tracked keywords and SEO stops being an option at any budget; Pro+ raises the cap to 1,500 keywords at $299 a month, where a two-person team lands at $379 once a second login is added. A four-person team tracking closer to 5,000 keywords, or one that specifically needs API access, has to move all the way to Advanced at $549 a month, the only tier Semrush sells with an API, running $849 once three extra logins are added.

Is Starter’s AI-search tracking worth paying more than the plain SEO plan?

Semrush brands Starter, Pro+ and Advanced as “SEO + AI Search” plans, and Starter’s SEO limits are identical to plain SEO: 5 websites, 500 keywords tracked daily, 100,000 pages crawled a month, one user. The only real difference is AI Visibility: up to 50 AI-search prompts tracked daily and brand-mention monitoring across ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity, for $199 a month against SEO’s $139.95. If nobody is paying you to report on AI-search visibility, buy plain SEO and skip the difference. If someone is, buy Starter directly rather than bolting Semrush’s $99 AI Visibility Toolkit onto SEO afterward: bought as a separate add-on, that toolkit costs more in total than simply upgrading to Starter, which already bundles the same tracking into its price. The same logic holds a tier up, too, since Pro+ and Advanced both already include AI Visibility.

What pushes a Semrush bill higher than the plan price alone?

Every plan includes exactly one login, and extra seats are the first thing that moves the number: $45 a month each on SEO or Starter, $80 on Pro+, $100 on Advanced, and that price buys SEO features only. Semrush’s own knowledge base spells out the real catch with a worked example: give one extra Starter user full AI Visibility access, and that person alone costs $144 a month, the $45 seat fee plus a separate $99 AI Visibility Toolkit licence, because AI Visibility, Traffic & Market and App Center access all have to be bought again per user. The same stacking happens on Pro+ and Advanced, where the $99 toolkit sits on top of an $80 or $100 seat instead of $45. Beyond seats, Semrush sells six more toolkits as their own subscriptions, none bundled into any SEO + AI Search plan: Local starts at $30 a location, Content at $60 a month, and Traffic & Market, Social, Advertising and AI PR each carry their own separate price. Want local SEO or AI content drafting alongside core SEO? Budget for those as extra line items, not features the plan already includes.

Does paying Semrush annually actually save money?

On the four paid plans themselves, yes: annual billing saves about 17% on Starter, Pro+ and Advanced and about 16% on SEO, dropping the effective monthly price to $117.33 on SEO, $165.17 on Starter, $248.17 on Pro+ and $455.67 on Advanced. The catch is how that gets charged: it is one lump payment for the full year upfront, not 12 smaller monthly charges at the lower rate, so the up-front cost is far bigger even though the monthly average is lower. It also does not touch anything else Semrush sells. AI Visibility, Local, Content, Traffic & Market, Social, Advertising and AI PR all show the identical price on either billing toggle, so a business paying for several toolkits sees the yearly saving apply only to its core plan, never to what is layered on top.

What does Semrush’s pricing page leave out about trials and refunds?

The pricing page shows a “Try for free” button on SEO, Starter and Pro+, and Semrush’s knowledge base says every SEO + AI Search plan gets a 7-day trial, but Advanced shows only a “Subscribe” button with no trial offer visible; whether Advanced actually gets the same 7 days at checkout is not something the published pages confirm either way. Where a trial does apply, it needs a credit card: Semrush’s billing FAQ says it places a $1 authorization that gets reversed, exports are switched off for the week, and the trial rolls into a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel first. Refunds carry the opposite asymmetry. The 7-day money-back guarantee covers only your first annual subscription and your first add-on purchase, bought online by card; a month-to-month subscription is not refundable at all, and canceling one only stops future billing, not the period you already paid for. The more flexible monthly plans, in other words, are the ones with no safety net if you change your mind.

How does Semrush’s price compare with Ahrefs and SE Ranking?

Ahrefs is the closest verified comparison. Its Lite plan runs $129 a month for 750 keywords, more keywords than Semrush’s SEO plan for less money, though Ahrefs updates rankings weekly rather than daily and meters research behind monthly credits that Semrush’s SEO plan does not use at all. A two-person team lands at $309 on Ahrefs’ Standard plan against $379 on Semrush’s Pro+, and a four-person team pays $689 against $849. See the Semrush vs. Ahrefs comparison for the feature differences behind those numbers.

SE Ranking is worth checking when team size, not SEO features, is driving the budget: its Growth plan, at $279 a month, already includes 3 seats, against one seat apiece on Semrush and Ahrefs below Enterprise. That is why a four-person team on SE Ranking runs $299, a fraction of the same team’s cost on Semrush or Ahrefs.

Pick Semrush for daily rank tracking and AI-search visibility built into the plan. Pick Ahrefs when weekly rank updates are fine and you would rather pay for research by user credits than by AI-prompt tracking. Pick SE Ranking when a multi-person team, not the SEO toolset, is the real budget constraint.

Billing rules worth knowing

  • Every SEO + AI Search plan can be paid month to month or annually. Annual billing is charged upfront for the whole year, not in 12 monthly payments. Semrush says it saves 'up to 17%'. From the listed prices, the saving is about 17% on Starter, Pro+ and Advanced and about 16% on SEO ($117.33 vs $139.95 a month).
  • The toolkit add-ons (AI Visibility, Local, Content, Traffic & Market, Social, Advertising, AI PR) show the same price under the Monthly and Annually toggles, so annual billing brings no discount on them. A toolkit or add-on added to an annual subscription is charged once, prorated to the end of the annual term.
  • Refunds: the 7-day money-back guarantee covers only initial annual (12-month or longer) subscriptions and initial add-on purchases made online by credit card. Month-to-month subscriptions are not refundable, and a cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid term.
  • Each plan includes one user login. Extra users share the account's limits. On Starter, Pro+ and Advanced, an extra user gets SEO features only: AI Visibility, Traffic & Market and App Center apps have to be bought again for each user.
  • Semrush's KB article 'SEO Toolkit Pricing and Plans' still lists SEO Toolkit Pro at $139.95, Guru at $249.95 and Business at $499.95 a month. The public pricing page shows only the SEO plan at $139.95 next to Starter, Pro+ and Advanced, so a buyer who needs Guru-level limits (15 sites, 1,500 keywords) or Business-level limits (40 sites, 5,000 keywords) now sees Pro+ at $299 or Advanced at $549 instead.
  • Payment: all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, UnionPay); wire transfer on request; check or money order on request (US only). Semrush's billing FAQ says virtual cards are not accepted.

How we checked this

Semrush: Read from Semrush's SEO + AI Search and toolkit pricing pages (both billing toggles, the expanded plan comparison and the FAQ answers) plus Semrush knowledge-base articles on plans, users, billing, trials and refunds in a US-locale headless browser; snapshots saved. Last verified . Prices are US list prices in USD.

Automated re-check on : all 5 prices we re-read were still on Semrush's pages.

What we could not verify:
  • The price of more SEO limits (extra tracked keywords, projects or crawl pages) beyond what a plan includes is not published on the pricing page or in the captured KB articles. Semrush points customers to the in-account Subscription info page.
  • We could not confirm whether new customers can still buy SEO Toolkit Guru or Business. A Semrush KB article lists them at $249.95 and $499.95 a month, but the public pricing page does not show them and no captured page gives their annual prices.
  • Free trial on Advanced: the pricing page shows no 'Try for free' button for Advanced, while Semrush's KB says the 7-day trial covers every SEO + AI Search plan. Not tested at checkout.
  • Additional-user prices under annual billing: the comparison table shows the same $45/$80/$100 per user under both toggles, but we did not see whether the annual checkout charges users per month or upfront for the year.
  • Local Toolkit Business (20+ locations) and Traffic & Market Custom are sales-quoted. Their prices were not captured.

We re-check every price against the vendor's page each Monday; changes are logged on the changes page. See a price that's wrong? Tell us and we will correct it the same week.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Semrush cost per month?

Semrush's cheapest paid plan is SEO at $139.95 a month, covering one user, 5 websites and 500 keywords tracked daily. Adding AI-search visibility tracking, meaning brand mentions in ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity, moves you to Starter at $199 a month, with the same 500-keyword cap. Once a business needs to track more than 500 keywords, the next step is Pro+ at $299 a month for 1,500 keywords, and the top self-serve tier, Advanced, costs $549 a month for 5,000 keywords and the only API access Semrush sells. A free account sits below all of these, but it allows just 10 reports a day and 10 tracked keywords, useful for testing the product rather than running SEO work. Pricing above Advanced is custom Enterprise pricing, quoted only through Semrush's sales team.

Does Semrush have a free plan or a free trial?

Both, and they work differently. Semrush's free plan needs no credit card and never expires, but it is built for testing, not real SEO work: one website, 10 tracked keywords in Position Tracking and 10 reports a day across the main tools. Separately, Semrush offers a 7-day free trial of its paid SEO + AI Search plans, and that one does require a credit card; Semrush's billing FAQ says it places a $1 authorization that gets reversed, and the trial turns into a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel first. Exports are switched off during the trial. Semrush's pricing page shows a "Try for free" button on SEO, Starter and Pro+, but not on Advanced, even though Semrush's own knowledge base says every SEO + AI Search plan includes the same 7-day trial.

What's the difference between Semrush's SEO plan and Starter plan?

The SEO and Starter plans share identical SEO limits: 5 websites, 500 keywords tracked daily, 100,000 pages crawled a month and one user included. The only thing Starter adds is Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit, tracking up to 50 AI-search prompts a day and brand mentions across ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity. For that one difference, Starter costs $199 a month against SEO's $139.95. Buying the AI Visibility Toolkit on its own, as a $99 add-on to the plain SEO plan, works out to more in total than upgrading to Starter outright, so a business that wants AI-search tracking should upgrade rather than add the toolkit separately. Pro+ and Advanced both already include the same AI Visibility access at their own higher prices, so this comparison only matters at the SEO-versus-Starter decision point.

How much do extra users cost on Semrush?

It depends on the plan, since every Semrush plan is priced for one login only. An extra user costs $45 a month on the SEO or Starter plan, $80 a month on Pro+, or $100 a month on Advanced, and that price buys SEO features only. On Starter, Pro+ and Advanced, an additional user gets no AI Visibility, Traffic & Market or App Center access unless you buy those again for that specific person. Semrush's own knowledge base gives a worked example: an extra Starter user with full AI Visibility access costs $144 a month in total, the $45 seat fee plus a separate $99 AI Visibility Toolkit licence. Accounts running only a toolkit such as Local, Content or Social, with no SEO plan attached, pay a flat $20 a month per extra user instead.

Is it worth paying for Semrush annually?

Usually, if you are confident you will keep the plan for a full year. Paying annually instead of monthly saves about 17% on Starter, Pro+ and Advanced, and about 16% on the SEO plan, dropping SEO to $117.33 a month, Starter to $165.17, Pro+ to $248.17 and Advanced to $455.67. The catch is how it is billed: annual plans are charged upfront for the whole year in one payment, not spread across 12 monthly charges, and canceling a month-to-month plan gets you nothing back for the time already paid. None of Semrush's separate toolkits, including AI Visibility, Local, Content, Social, Advertising and AI PR, gets any annual discount at all; each costs the same whether the billing toggle is set to monthly or annual, so the yearly saving applies only to your core SEO plan.

Can you get a refund if you cancel Semrush?

Rarely, and it depends heavily on how you paid. Semrush's 7-day money-back guarantee covers only your first annual subscription, 12 months or longer, and your first add-on purchase, bought online by credit card; miss that window and the annual term runs its course with no refund. Month-to-month subscriptions are not refundable at all: canceling stops future billing, but the cancellation only takes effect at the end of the period you already paid for, and that period's payment is not returned. In other words, the flexible month-to-month plans that let you cancel any time carry no safety net if you change your mind partway through a paid month, while the more restrictive annual plans do, but only on the first purchase.

Does Semrush charge extra to track AI search results like ChatGPT and Google AI?

Yes, unless you are already on Starter, Pro+ or Advanced, which have it built in. The plain SEO plan does not include AI-search tracking at all; adding Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit to it costs $99 a month per domain, covering 25 custom prompts tracked daily. Starter, Pro+ and Advanced include AI Visibility already, tracking 50, 100 or 200 prompts a day respectively across ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity, with no extra line item. Need more than a plan's prompt allowance? An additional Brand Performance domain costs $99 a month, and 50 extra tracked prompts cost $60 a month. Extra users added to Starter, Pro+ or Advanced do not get AI Visibility automatically; that access costs another $99 a month for each of them.
