Ahrefs pricing: what it really costs
As of 26 September 2026, Ahrefs' cheapest paid plan, Starter, costs $29 a month for one user and 50 tracked keywords, with no annual discount and no free trial. Real SEO research for a freelancer or small agency needs Lite at $129 a month instead, since Starter blocks additional users and caps out at 50 tracked keywords. Rank Tracker refreshes weekly on every plan, including Enterprise at $1,499 a month, so nobody on Ahrefs gets daily rank updates. A freelancer running SEO for one or two clients should start on Lite, not Starter, and expect the bill to climb once a second user or a bigger keyword list enters the picture.

Ahrefs plans and prices
Ahrefs' published plans as of 26 September 2026: the month-to-month price, the effective monthly price when billed annually, and what each plan is priced by (US list prices in USD).
| Plan | Monthly | Billed annually | Priced | Key limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ahrefs FreeNot a trial: a free account with no expiry. Site Explorer, Site Audit and Web Analytics work only on websites whose ownership you verify (source 2). Ahrefs' plan comparison lists Keywords Explorer and Rank Tracker among the tools Starter adds over the free account (source 18). Workspace members can only be added on Lite or higher (source 25). The Report Builder page says a free account can create 1 report a month (source 9). | Free | — | per month | Unlimited verified websites; Site Explorer: 1K backlinks and keywords visible at once (verified sites only); Site Audit: 5K crawl credits a month per project (verified sites only); Web Analytics: up to 1M events per project; AI Content Helper: 1 document a month; No Keywords Explorer or Rank Tracker |
| StarterPrice from the pricing page (source 0); limits from Ahrefs' help article (source 3), which says Starter can only be renewed monthly (so there is no annual price), that additional users and credits can't be bought on it while other add-ons can, and that its features and limits may change without prior notice. | $29 | — | per month1 seat included | 200 credits a month (plus 500 usable only on verified projects); 1 unverified project (unlimited verified projects); 50 tracked keywords; 1 month of historical data; 250 rows per report; no exports; 5 keyword lists, max 100 keywords each; Site Audit on unverified projects: 10,000 crawl credits a month, max 500 pages per project; 1 user; additional users can't be added |
| LiteThe only current plan metered by credits: each user gets 1,000 credits a month, spent when opening reports, applying filters or requesting more data in Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer and the other research tools; Site Audit and Rank Tracker don't use credits (sources 0 and 4). Monthly price from source 0. Billed annually it costs $1,290 a year (source 1): $1,290 ÷ 12 = $107.50 a month, which the annual view rounds to '$108 /mo'. Ahrefs describes Lite as 'Essential data for small businesses and personal projects.' | $129 | $107.50per month | per month1 seat included | 5 projects with unverified ownership (unlimited verified projects); 750 tracked keywords, updated weekly; 1,000 credits per user per month; 6 months of historical data; 100,000 Site Audit crawl credits a month; max 25,000 pages per project; 2,500 rows per report; 500,000 export rows a month; 5 tracked AI prompts in Brand Radar (150 checks a month); 1 user included; up to 2 additional users |
| StandardNo monthly credit cap: Standard and higher plans have unlimited fair-use credits for every active user (sources 0 and 5). Monthly price from source 0. Billed annually it costs $2,490 a year (source 1): $2,490 ÷ 12 = $207.50 a month, which the annual view rounds to '$208 /mo'. Ahrefs pitches it at 'freelance SEOs and marketing consultants'. | $249 | $207.50per month | per month1 seat included | 20 projects with unverified ownership (unlimited verified projects); 2,000 tracked keywords, updated weekly; 2 years of historical data; 500,000 Site Audit crawl credits a month; max 50,000 pages per project; 30,000 rows per report; 1.5M export rows a month; 10 tracked AI prompts in Brand Radar (300 checks a month); API and MCP: max 250 rows per request; 1 user included; up to 5 additional users |
| AdvancedUnlimited fair-use credits for every active user. Monthly price from source 0. Billed annually it costs $4,490 a year (source 1): $4,490 ÷ 12 = $374.17 a month, which the annual view shows as '$374 /mo'. Ahrefs pitches it at 'lean in-house marketing teams'. | $449 | $374.17per month | per month1 seat included | 50 projects with unverified ownership (unlimited verified projects); 5,000 tracked keywords, updated weekly; 5 years of historical data; 1.5M Site Audit crawl credits a month; max 250,000 pages per project; 75,000 rows per report; 4M export rows a month; 20 tracked AI prompts in Brand Radar (600 checks a month); API and MCP: max 500 rows per request; 1 user included; up to 10 additional users |
| EnterpriseNot month-to-month: the plan card says 'Annual commitment required' (source 0) and the help centre gives Enterprise a minimum 1-year subscription (source 16), so paying monthly means 12 × $1,499 = $17,988 over the minimum term. Paid upfront it is $14,990 a year (source 1): $14,990 ÷ 12 = $1,249.17 a month. The comparison table lists included users as 'From 3' and several limits as 'From', and the card's button is 'Talk to sales'. Only Enterprise can pay by bank or wire transfer (sources 17 and 18). | $1,499 | $1,249.17per month | per month3 seats included | From 3 users included; unlimited additional users; 100 projects with unverified ownership (unlimited verified); 100 competitors per project; From 10,000 tracked keywords, updated weekly; Unlimited historical data; From 5M Site Audit crawl credits a month; max 5M pages per project; 150,000 rows per report; from 10M export rows a month; From 83 tracked AI prompts in Brand Radar (from 2,500 checks a month) |
What you will really pay
What a business actually pays for Ahrefs each month at three sizes, with every line of the bill shown. Built from the prices above as of 26 September 2026; open “How we worked this out” under any total for the assumptions.
Solo: 1 user, 1–3 projects, ~500 tracked keywords
$129 / month
high confidence- Lite plan (monthly)$129
Plan: Lite · billed monthly.
How we worked this out
One user tracking about 500 keywords across 1–3 sites, billed month to month. Lite covers it: 5 projects, 750 tracked keywords and 1 user included. Starter ($29/mo) tracks only 50 keywords in 1 unverified project, so it does not fit. Lite gives this one user 1,000 credits a month for research reports; Site Audit and Rank Tracker don't use credits. Heavier research would need extra credits at $50 per 500 on pay-as-you-go. Rankings update weekly. Paid annually: $1,290 a year, or $107.50 a month.
Small team: 2 users, ~5 projects, ~1,500 tracked keywords
$309 / month
high confidence- Standard plan (monthly)$249
- 1 additional user on Standard (1 × $60)$60
Plan: Standard · billed monthly.
How we worked this out
Two active users, about 5 sites and 1,500 tracked keywords, billed month to month. Lite stops at 750 tracked keywords, so the keyword count forces Standard (20 projects, 2,000 tracked keywords, 1 user included). The second user costs $60 a month on Standard. Standard has no monthly credit cap for either user. Paid annually with the second user prepaid: ($2,490 + $600) ÷ 12 = $257.50 a month. Lite with extra tracked keywords (sold in batches of 500) might cost less, but Ahrefs does not publish the batch price on any page we captured.
Growing team: 4 users, ~15 projects, ~5,000 tracked keywords
$689 / month
high confidence- Advanced plan (monthly)$449
- 3 additional users on Advanced (3 × $80)$240
Plan: Advanced · billed monthly.
How we worked this out
Four active users, about 15 sites and 5,000 tracked keywords, billed month to month. Standard would cover the projects and users but only 2,000 tracked keywords, so the keyword count forces Advanced (50 projects, 5,000 tracked keywords, 1 user included). The three extra users cost $80 each on Advanced: 3 × $80 = $240. 5,000 keywords is exactly Advanced's cap, with no headroom; more are sold in batches of 500 at a price we could not capture. Paid annually with the three users prepaid: ($4,490 + 3 × $800) ÷ 12 = $574.17 a month.
Which Ahrefs plan does a freelancer or small team need?
Ahrefs sells six tiers: a free account, then Starter, Lite, Standard, Advanced and Enterprise, and the plan that fits is decided by tracked keywords and user count, not team size. Ahrefs Free never expires and needs no card, but it only covers Site Explorer, Site Audit and Web Analytics for websites you verify, with no Keywords Explorer and no Rank Tracker — fine for auditing your own site, not for research. Starter, at $29 a month, looks like the entry point, but it tracks only 50 keywords in one unverified project, caps out at one user with no way to add another, and blocks exports; it suits a personal blog, not a paying SEO engagement. Real solo client work needs Lite at $129 a month, covering a freelancer tracking around 500 keywords across a few sites at $129 for the real bill above. A two-person team tracking closer to 1,500 keywords needs Standard instead, since Lite tops out at 750 tracked keywords; add a second login and the bill lands at $309. A four-person team tracking 5,000 keywords needs Advanced, running $689 with three extra users added — exactly Advanced’s ceiling, with no room to grow before Enterprise.
Why does an Ahrefs bill grow faster than the plan price suggests?
Every Ahrefs plan below Enterprise includes exactly one user, and a second person is the first thing that moves the number. On Lite, an extra user is metered by credits: free up to 5 credits a month, $20 as a “Casual” user up to 100 credits, or $40 as a “Power” user past that. Standard, Advanced and Enterprise instead charge one flat rate per extra user regardless of usage: $60, $80 and $100 a month. None of it is optional past one seat, and Ahrefs bills it automatically — unprepaid users are charged pay-as-you-go, and the charge applies even if that person is removed before the billing period ends. Beyond seats, Ahrefs sells its other research tools as separate subscriptions: AI Content Helper starts at $99 a month for 50 documents, Report Builder’s higher limits cost another $99, and Project Boosts (faster crawling, auto-indexing, one-click title fixes) run $20 or $200 a month per project. Brand Radar, Ahrefs’ AI-answer tracking tool, is priced separately again: looking up any brand’s AI visibility starts at $199 a month, and tracking your own prompts costs $50 to $250 depending on volume.
What does Lite’s 1,000-credit limit actually mean day to day?
Lite is currently the only Ahrefs plan billed this way. Every user gets 1,000 credits a month, spent by opening reports, applying filters or pulling extra rows in Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer and Ahrefs’ other research tools; Site Audit and Rank Tracker don’t touch this allowance, so auditing a site or watching rankings never runs a Lite account dry. Standard and every plan above it removes the cap entirely, giving every active user unlimited fair-use credits — the real reason a research-heavy two-person team is often better off on Standard before the keyword count even forces the issue. Running low mid-month on Lite means buying more: Ahrefs prices extra credits at $50 per 500, sold pay-as-you-go (off by default) or prepaid for the year. Nowhere on Ahrefs’ pricing or help pages is there a published price for tracking more keywords than a plan’s cap allows, only a note that more can be bought in batches of 500 through support — worth asking about before assuming Advanced’s 5,000-keyword ceiling is the end of the road.
Is paying Ahrefs annually worth the switch?
On Lite, Standard and Advanced, usually, if the budget can absorb one large charge instead of smaller monthly ones. Ahrefs bills annual subscribers for 10 months instead of 12, dropping the effective price to $107.50 a month on Lite, $207.50 on Standard and $374.17 on Advanced. Ahrefs’ pricing page calls that a saving of “up to 17%,” while its own help articles describe the identical discount as “~20%” — both describe the same 10-months-for-12 arithmetic, so treat either figure as a description, not a number to plan a budget around. Starter never gets this option; it renews monthly only, with no annual price published. Enterprise flips the trade-off around: its plan card reads “Annual commitment required,” and Ahrefs’ help center confirms a minimum one-year subscription, so the $1,499 monthly rate is really a payment schedule inside a year-long contract, not month-to-month pricing. One more catch applies whichever plan a subscriber picks: moving an existing monthly subscription to annual billing is not self-serve — both the pricing FAQ and the help center say to contact Ahrefs support instead.
What does Ahrefs’ pricing page not make obvious?
The biggest one is the trial that doesn’t exist: Ahrefs’ help center says plainly, “We don’t provide any free trials,” and its pricing FAQ adds that Ahrefs never runs sales, seasonal or otherwise, or special pricing for non-profits. The only way to try the product without paying is the free account, which excludes Keywords Explorer and Rank Tracker entirely. Refunds are just as narrow: Ahrefs does not issue them as policy, though a monthly subscriber can ask for one with no material account activity, at Ahrefs’ discretion. There is no way to pause a subscription — canceling takes effect at the end of the billing period, and the account then drops to the free tier. Rank Tracker applies its own limit regardless of plan: keywords refresh weekly by default everywhere, including Enterprise, so a business that needs daily movement won’t get it from Ahrefs at any price. Two costs sit outside every number on the page: sales tax or VAT is added for customers in 38 US states plus Washington, D.C., and in Canada, the EU, the UK and other countries from Switzerland to Japan and Australia. Anyone paying in a local currency is converted at an exchange rate Ahrefs sets and can change, so a renewal can land at a different amount with no list-price change.
How does Ahrefs’ price compare with Semrush and SE Ranking?
Semrush is the closest direct alternative. Its entry SEO plan costs $139.95 a month for 500 keywords tracked daily, against Lite’s $129 for 750 tracked keywords updated weekly; Semrush’s SEO plan skips historical data and API access, while Lite includes 6 months of history and API and MCP access from the start. The gap changes shape as a team grows: a two-person team runs $309 on Ahrefs’ Standard plan against $379 on Semrush’s Pro+, and a four-person team pays $689 on Advanced against $849 on Semrush’s Advanced plan. Semrush’s real advantage is the 7-day free trial Ahrefs doesn’t offer, plus AI-search prompt tracking bundled in from Starter up. See the Ahrefs vs. Semrush comparison for the feature detail behind those numbers.
SE Ranking is the pick when a growing team’s seat count, not its keyword ceiling, drives the number up: Growth already bundles three logins into $279 a month, while Ahrefs and Semrush both charge for every seat past the first below their top tier. A four-person team on SE Ranking’s Growth plan runs $299, well under either Ahrefs or Semrush at the same size. Weekly rank updates and per-user credit pricing make Ahrefs the cheaper choice for a solo consultant or small agency doing deep research without needing daily client-dashboard movement; a team that reports rankings daily or wants AI-search tracking built into the base plan is likely to find Semrush’s higher price easier to justify, and a team where headcount is the real cost problem gets more seats per dollar from SE Ranking’s Growth plan than from either.

Billing rules worth knowing
- Lite, Standard, Advanced and Enterprise can be paid monthly or annually. Annual billing charges the price of 10 months for 12 (Ahrefs' example: Standard $249 × 10 = $2,490 a year). That is a 16.7% saving, which the pricing page rounds to 'save up to 17%'; Ahrefs' help articles call it '~20%' and 'almost 20%'. The annual view shows $1,290, $2,490, $4,490 and $14,990 a year.
- The pricing page's 'Pay annually' switch shows the yearly prices. To move an existing monthly subscription to annual billing, both the pricing FAQ and the help centre say to contact Ahrefs support.
- Enterprise needs an annual commitment (minimum 1-year subscription): $1,499 a month or $14,990 a year upfront. Only Enterprise can pay by bank or wire transfer; Lite, Standard and Advanced need a Visa, Mastercard, American Express or UnionPay card.
- Starter ($29/mo) renews monthly only, and extra users or credits can't be bought on it.
- Every plan except Enterprise includes one user. Additional users that are not prepaid are charged automatically on a pay-as-you-go basis. On Lite the charge depends on the credits a user consumes in the month (0–5 credits free, 6–100 credits $20, 101–1,000 credits $40). On Standard, Advanced and Enterprise every active additional user costs the flat plan rate ($60, $80 or $100). Users set as inactive are free but can only use Site Audit and Rank Tracker, and they do not count toward the plan's user limit.
- Pay-as-you-go purchases other than users (report credits, export rows, crawl credits, API units) last three billing months, including the current one, and prepaid limits are used first.
- Refunds: Ahrefs does not issue refunds in general. A monthly subscriber can request one if they haven't used the service, and Ahrefs may decline it if it sees material activity in the account. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the billing period, after which the account drops to Ahrefs Free. There is no option to pause a subscription.
- Upgrades take effect immediately, charged as the prorated difference for the rest of the billing period; downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of the current period. Ahrefs' Terms say pricing changes come into effect on your next renewal.
- Ahrefs says it never runs discounts: no seasonal sales, no promotional codes and no special pricing for non-profits.
- Rank Tracker updates tracked keywords weekly by default on every plan, including Enterprise. Each keyword counts once per location and per project, and one project can hold at most 10,000 tracked keywords.

Automated re-check on : all 25 prices we re-read were still on Ahrefs' pages.
- Extra tracked keywords: Ahrefs' help centre says they can be bought on any plan in batches of 500, pay-as-you-go or prepaid through support, but no captured page gives the price.
- Faster rank updates: Ahrefs says Rank Tracker updates weekly by default on every plan. Whether more frequent updates can be bought, and at what price, is not stated on any captured page.
- Pay-as-you-go prices for export rows and crawl credits are not published on the captured pages; the pricing FAQ only says they are charged automatically once enabled. On API units the two FAQs disagree: the pricing-page FAQ lists them among pay-as-you-go purchases, while Ahrefs' FAQ page says extra API units can't be bought below Enterprise. Frequently asked questions
How much does Ahrefs cost per month?
Ahrefs' cheapest paid plan is Starter at $29 a month, covering one user, one unverified project and 50 tracked keywords, with no exports and no way to add a second user. Real research work usually needs Lite at $129 a month, which adds Keywords Explorer research credits, 750 tracked keywords updated weekly, and API access. Standard costs $249 a month for 2,000 tracked keywords and no credit cap, and Advanced costs $449 a month for 5,000 tracked keywords and up to 10 additional users. Enterprise starts at $1,499 a month, requires a minimum one-year subscription, and includes 3 users by default. A free Ahrefs Free account sits below all of these, but it excludes Keywords Explorer and Rank Tracker entirely, so it works for auditing your own verified site rather than researching keywords or competitors.
Does Ahrefs offer a free trial?
No. Ahrefs' help center states plainly that it does not provide free trials of any paid plan, and its pricing FAQ adds that Ahrefs never runs seasonal sales or special pricing for non-profits either. The closest thing to trying Ahrefs without paying is the free Ahrefs Free account, which needs no credit card and never expires, but it only works on websites you verify ownership of, and it leaves out Keywords Explorer and Rank Tracker completely. That makes it useful for auditing a site you already own, not for researching keywords or competitors before committing to a paid plan. The cheapest way to actually test the paid research tools is Starter at $29 a month, which renews monthly and can be canceled before the next renewal date.
What's the difference between Ahrefs Free and the Starter plan?
Ahrefs Free and Starter serve different jobs. Ahrefs Free never expires and needs no credit card, but it only unlocks Site Explorer, Site Audit and Web Analytics for websites whose ownership you verify, with no Keywords Explorer and no Rank Tracker at all, so it is built for checking your own site, not researching anyone else's. Starter costs $29 a month and adds Keywords Explorer and Rank Tracker, but on a single unverified project with just 50 tracked keywords, 250 rows per report, no exports, and one user with no way to add another. Ahrefs' own plan comparison lists Keywords Explorer and Rank Tracker as the tools Starter adds over the free account. Neither plan suits an agency managing several clients; that work starts at Lite, $129 a month.
How much does an extra user cost on Ahrefs?
It depends on the plan, since every Ahrefs plan except Enterprise includes exactly one user. On Lite, an additional user is metered by credits: free if they use 5 credits or fewer in the month, $20 a month as a 'Casual' user on 6 to 100 credits, or $40 a month as a 'Power' user above that, and Lite caps a team at 3 users in total. Standard charges a flat $60 a month per extra user, up to 5 additional users; Advanced charges $80 a month, up to 10 additional users; and Enterprise charges $100 a month with no published cap. None of this is prepaid by default: Ahrefs' pricing FAQ says additional users who are not prepaid are billed automatically on a pay-as-you-go basis, and charges apply to a user's activity in the billing period even if that user is removed before it ends.
Is it worth paying for Ahrefs annually?
Usually, if the budget can handle one larger charge instead of smaller monthly ones. Annual billing charges 10 months for 12 on Lite, Standard and Advanced, dropping the effective price to $107.50 a month on Lite, $207.50 on Standard and $374.17 on Advanced. Ahrefs' pricing page calls that a saving of 'up to 17%,' while its own help articles describe the same discount as '~20%', both describing the same 10-for-12 arithmetic, just rounded differently. Starter has no annual option at all; it only renews monthly. Enterprise flips the usual trade-off around: its card requires an annual commitment, so the $1,499 monthly rate is really a payment schedule inside a required one-year term, not month-to-month flexibility. Switching an existing monthly subscription to annual billing is not self-serve either; Ahrefs' pricing FAQ and help center both say to contact support to make the change.
Why is Ahrefs' Lite plan limited by credits?
Lite is currently the only Ahrefs plan billed this way. Every user on Lite gets 1,000 credits a month, spent by opening reports, applying filters or pulling extra rows in Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer and Ahrefs' other research tools; Site Audit and Rank Tracker don't touch this allowance at all. Ahrefs prices Lite this way because Standard and every plan above it gives every active user unlimited fair-use credits instead, which is why a research-heavy team is usually better off on Standard even before its keyword limit becomes the deciding factor. On Lite itself, running out mid-month means either waiting for the next cycle or buying more: Ahrefs sells extra credits at $50 for every 500, sold pay-as-you-go or prepaid for the year, though pay-as-you-go purchases are switched off by default.
Can you get a refund if you cancel Ahrefs?
Rarely. Ahrefs does not issue refunds as a general policy, whether the subscription is $29 Starter or the top Advanced plan. A subscriber on a monthly plan can request one if the account shows no material use, and Ahrefs may decline even that if it sees activity worth billing for. There is no option to pause a subscription instead of canceling it. Canceling takes effect at the end of the current billing period, not immediately, and once that period ends the account drops down to the free Ahrefs Free tier rather than being deleted outright. Upgrades work differently: moving to a higher plan takes effect right away, charged as the prorated difference for the rest of the billing period, while downgrades and cancellations both wait until the current period finishes before taking effect.
