As of 26 September 2026, GoHighLevel's missed call text back has no add-on fee, but each automatic reply costs $0.00747 per text segment plus a carrier fee of $0.0035 to $0.0050. Before it can text US mobiles from a local number, a business needs a GoHighLevel phone number at $1.15 a month and A2P 10DLC registration: $22.50 once, then a campaign fee from $1.50 a month. At 200 missed calls a month, the number, campaign fee and texts total about $5.16 on top of the $97 Starter plan. GoHighLevel suits a salon, studio or trades business that also wants booking, reviews and follow-up in one account; one that wants only the automatic text should first check its current phone provider.
What does missed call text back do in GoHighLevel?
Missed call text back sends an automatic text to a person whose call to your business went unanswered, so they can carry on by text instead of waiting for a callback. In GoHighLevel, it is a setting in the built-in phone system, not a paid add-on. HighLevel’s pricing guide makes that phone system available on every plan, so the Starter plan at $97 a month already has it. What you pay for is each text it sends, drawn from the prepaid wallet that funds all of GoHighLevel’s texting, plus the phone number and registration covered below.
HighLevel’s help article on the feature, last updated 7 September 2026, describes how it behaves:
- A call counts as missed once it rings past your timeout. A slider in the voicemail settings sets the ring time, and HighLevel suggests 10 to 20 seconds. Answered calls never trigger a text.
- Every missed call gets its own text, including a second or third try from the same person a few minutes later.
- The text may come from another number. HighLevel tries the number the caller dialed first. If that number cannot send texts, as can happen with call tracking numbers, number pools and unverified toll-free numbers, it moves on to a number that has already texted the contact successfully, then the default outbound number, then any other eligible number in the location.
- Contacts on Do Not Disturb are skipped, whichever number would have sent the text.
- Merge fields need a known contact. A placeholder such as the caller’s name fills in only when HighLevel already recognizes the caller from an earlier interaction, so write a message that reads well without it.
When no number in the location can send, the failed attempt appears in the contact’s conversation along with the reason.
How do you set up missed call text back in GoHighLevel?
The quick route is the switch in Settings. Inside the sub-account, open Settings, choose Phone System from the left menu and Voice from the top menu, then open Voicemail & Missed Call Text Back and pick Missed Call Text Back in the side panel. Tick Enable Missed Call Text Back, click Customize, write the message, send a test from the field below the editor and click Save. The same voicemail settings hold the ring timeout and an optional recorded greeting, uploaded as an mp3 or wav file, that replaces the carrier’s standard one.
The second route is a workflow, which HighLevel’s article recommends once repeat callers become a problem. Start from the missed-call recipe in Workflows, or build one on the Call Status trigger, which HighLevel’s current help article titles Call details, filtered to incoming calls that end busy or not answered. Add the text and whatever should follow it, such as an alert or a callback task for whoever answers the phones, then switch on the Publish toggle. To keep a persistent caller from getting one text per attempt, HighLevel suggests a wait step of about 20 minutes or tags that count first and second calls.
Run one route at a time. When callers get duplicate messages, HighLevel’s troubleshooting notes for the WhatsApp version of this feature point to overlapping text-back settings and workflows, and every duplicate is billed. Then test from another phone: let the call ring out, check that the text arrives, and find the charge in the Transactions tab of Wallet & Transactions, under Billing in your agency settings.
What does GoHighLevel need before a missed call text back can send?
Four things have to be in place, and a missing one stops the text from going out.
- A HighLevel phone number. LC Phone, HighLevel’s built-in phone system, rents local US and Canadian numbers at $1.15 a month and toll-free numbers at $2.15.
- Calls that ring that number. The feature only acts on calls that reach the HighLevel phone system. You can publish the HighLevel number as your business line, or keep your existing number and have your carrier forward unanswered calls to it; HighLevel’s Google Business Profile integration can also put its number on your listing. Forwarding keeps your public number in your hands: HighLevel’s Terms say numbers bought through the platform are released within 14 days of cancellation. Make sure no two numbers forward to each other, which HighLevel warns can bounce a call back and forth.
- A2P 10DLC registration. Before a local number can text US mobiles, the business must register a brand and a campaign in the Trust Center, under Settings and then Phone System. HighLevel’s campaign guide asks for an approved brand and a live business website, and a business without a Tax ID can register a single number only. The brand and first campaign cost $22.50 once at the Sole Proprietor or Low Volume Standard level; the campaign then costs $1.50 a month as Low Volume Mixed, $2.00 as Sole Proprietor or $10.00 for a standard use case. A toll-free number goes through a separate toll-free verification instead.
- The number linked to the approved campaign. Under Settings, Phone System, Phone Numbers, a sending number should carry a green A2P Verified label. If it does not, link it to the campaign; HighLevel’s error guide allows up to 24 hours after approval for carriers to activate it.
The registration and the monthly campaign fee both start when the campaign is submitted, regardless of the review’s outcome. Our GoHighLevel SMS and calling cost breakdown covers those rules and the prepaid wallet in full.
How much does each missed call text back cost?
Each text-back is billed like any other GoHighLevel text: $0.00747 for every segment, with a carrier fee on top that depends on the caller’s mobile network. T-Mobile and Verizon customers carry a $0.0045 fee, AT&T customers $0.0035, US Cellular customers $0.0050 and everyone else $0.0040, so a single-segment text-back to a T-Mobile or Verizon customer costs about $0.012. HighLevel’s help articles disagree on whether it adds 5% to carrier fees. Its markup article says it does, while its A2P fee article and its campaign registration guide say carrier and A2P fees pass through without a markup. On a single text, the 5% comes to a small fraction of a cent.
The price per caller rises in four ways:
- Long or decorated messages. A segment holds 160 characters of plain text, and the 161st starts a second one. HighLevel’s cost article says any emoji switches the text to Unicode, which fits 70 characters per segment, and that text pasted from a word processor can carry hidden characters that add segments.
- Replies. A caller’s reply is billed too, at the same $0.00747 per segment with an inbound carrier charge between $0.0025 and $0.0100 on top, and every answer your staff send is billed the same way as the first text.
- Repeat calls. With the Settings switch, a person who rings three times before anyone calls back receives three texts.
- Landlines. HighLevel charges for a text once delivery has been attempted, whether or not it arrives, and refunds nothing for undelivered texts, so a text-back to a landline caller is still billed. When a text fails with error 30006, which HighLevel’s error guide describes as a landline or unreachable carrier, its Do Not Disturb article says SMS DND is switched on for that contact, so later calls from the same line are not texted again.
One case costs nothing. A text to someone who has already replied STOP is blocked before sending, and HighLevel’s opt-out article says the blocked attempt is not charged.
What does missed call text back cost at 200 missed calls a month?
Take one business on Starter, with one local number and a Low Volume Mixed campaign, that misses 200 calls a month and sends each caller one single-segment text. Price every text at the T-Mobile and Verizon carrier fee and include HighLevel’s 5% markup, as our real-bill examples do. The month’s costs for the number, the campaign and the texts are:
- Local number: $1.15
- 200 text segments at $0.00747: $1.49
- Carrier fees at $0.0045 a segment: $0.90
- Low Volume Mixed campaign fee: $1.50
- 5% markup on the carrier and campaign fees: $0.12
- Total: $5.16 a month, on top of $97 for the Starter plan
The first month also carries the $22.50 registration, plus 5% if the markup applies. These are the same texting lines as the solo bill on our GoHighLevel pricing page, which adds the plan and 2,000 emails to reach $103.51 a month.
Two of those lines, the number and the campaign fee, stay the same however many calls you miss. The per-text lines grow in step with missed calls, and replies, repeat callers and two-segment messages push them higher. The campaign type matters more than volume: moving to a standard campaign at $10.00 a month would add more to the bill than doubling the missed calls. HighLevel’s registration guide says to choose Mixed, which sets the $1.50 Low Volume Mixed use case, when one messaging program genuinely includes both promotional and informational texts, so a business that texts only missed callers should check which use case fits before counting on that fee. Either way, the texting is small next to the subscription, so the real decision is whether you will use enough of the rest of GoHighLevel to justify the plan.
Call minutes are not in the list above. HighLevel bills inbound calls by the minute, $0.01165 for one answered in its app and $0.02 for one it forwards to another US number, so publishing the HighLevel number as your main line puts every answered call on that meter. Forwarding only unanswered calls from your existing line keeps the calls you pick up off it.
How does GoHighLevel handle consent and STOP replies to a text-back?
A missed call text back goes to someone who phoned the business, not to someone who signed up for texts. HighLevel’s opt-out article tells senders to secure explicit opt-in consent and to honor opt-outs. Whether a phone call amounts to that consent is a legal question for whoever advises your business, and this page does not answer it.
HighLevel’s own articles describe what the system does:
- Opt-out keywords block further texts. After a caller replies STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END or QUIT, texts to them from that number are blocked, and HighLevel’s DND article says the reply also switches on SMS Do Not Disturb for the contact. HighLevel’s opt-out article adds that only the caller can lift the block, by texting START or YES.
- Do Not Disturb covers the text-back. A contact with SMS DND switched on, whether by a keyword or by your staff, does not receive the automatic text.
- The A2P campaign asks about consent. HighLevel’s registration guide asks who receives your messages and how they opt in, accepts methods ranging from website forms to verbal consent, and wants sample messages that name the sender and include opt-out wording. Describe the missed-call reply accurately in that registration, and write the live text the same way: name the business and say how to stop further texts.
When is GoHighLevel too much to buy for missed call text back alone?
When the automatic text is the only thing you want. GoHighLevel’s cheapest plan is Starter at $97 a month, or $80.83 a month on yearly billing, and the number, the registration and the texts come on top. Before adding a second system, check whether the phone service you already pay for can send an automatic reply to missed calls. Changing provider does not change the texting rules: HighLevel’s A2P article describes A2P 10DLC as the standard for business texts to US mobiles from local numbers, so expect a similar registration step wherever the text is sent from.
GoHighLevel is worth its subscription when the text-back starts a process rather than being the whole of it. A missed caller becomes a contact, the reply lands in GoHighLevel’s unified conversations inbox, a workflow can alert whoever handles callbacks or create a task, and the same account holds the booking calendar and the review requests that come later. That is the setup our local service business stack is built around. A single business needs no more than Starter for it; our GoHighLevel plan comparison explains when the larger plans start to matter. A medical or dental practice should also price HighLevel’s HIPAA add-on, $297 a month for the whole account, and read what it does and does not cover in our GoHighLevel add-ons guide before texting patients.
30 days free through HighLevel’s Bootcamp page, instead of the 14 on its pricing page. The signup form asks for payment details, usage fees for texts, calls and email can still be charged during the trial, and the plan bills monthly once it ends unless you cancel.

- Whether the 14-day trial requires a card up front: the signup form asks for business details first and its 'Trial Details' step was not reached. The pricing page says billing starts automatically when the trial ends unless canceled.
- The 5% pass-through markup on A2P and carrier fees: the markup article (9 Sep 2026) says it applies whether or not rebilling is enabled and the Phone System guide (24 Sep 2026) says it 'always applies', but the same guide also says 'only when re-billing is enabled' and the A2P fee article says HighLevel adds no markup. The scenarios include it; without it they fall by $0.12 (solo), $0.30 (small) and $1.20 (growing).
- The Phone System guide lists A2P monthly fees with the 5% built in (Sole Proprietor 'up to $2.10', Low Volume '$1.50-$10.50', High Volume '$10.50'), while the A2P article lists $2.00 / $1.50 / $10.00. The scenarios use the A2P article's $1.50.
- Carrier fees depend on each recipient's carrier; the scenarios assume $0.0045 per outbound segment for every text.
- Pay-per-use Conversation AI and Voice AI cost per conversation depends on token counts and cannot be priced in advance; only the per-token and per-minute rates are recorded.
- The per-message price for US WhatsApp service messages beyond the free 1,000 a month (in force since 1 October 2026) appears only in an attached CSV ($0.0034 before the 5% fee), not in the guide's table.
- HighLevel's pricing pages list no platform fee on payments taken through Stripe, PayPal, Square and other connected processors, but processor fees were not captured.
- Domain purchase prices vary by TLD and were not captured.
- Whether a dedicated email sending domain costs anything: the setup article lists no fee, but does not say it is free.
- The $27/month Pause Plan is mentioned in HighLevel's billing FAQ, which also says agency accounts cannot be paused.
- Enterprise pricing is quote-only.
- HighLevel's in-app Wallet Pricing page (the source it calls authoritative for usage rates) requires a login and was not captured.
- The dedicated email IP's unit: the pricing page and the dedicated IP article say $59 a month per IP, while HighLevel's Pricing Guide says "$59/mo per dedicated domain". The record follows the two that agree.
- The Workflow Pro unit: HighLevel's Pricing Guide calls the $10 tier a price "for the agency" in one line but lists it per enabled sub-account in its table, and the Workflow Pro article counts allowances per sub-account. The record treats it as per sub-account.
We re-check every price against the vendor's page each Monday; changes are logged on the changes page. See a price that's wrong? Tell us and we will correct it the same week.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my GoHighLevel missed call text back not sending?
Work through three checks. First, the setting: HighLevel sends nothing unless Missed Call Text Back is enabled under Settings, Phone System, Voice, and only a call that rings past the incoming call timeout counts as missed, so an answered call never triggers it.
Second, the sending number. A local number needs the green A2P Verified label under Settings, Phone System, Phone Numbers. HighLevel's error guide says error 30034 means the number is not fully registered for A2P: link it to the approved campaign and allow up to 24 hours after approval for carrier activation. A Sole Proprietor registration supports one local number per campaign. A toll-free number fails with error 30032 until its verification is approved.
Third, the contact: a caller who replied STOP or has SMS Do Not Disturb switched on is skipped. When a text does fail, the contact's conversation marks it Unsuccessful, and the red warning beside it shows the error code.
Why did my GoHighLevel missed call text come from a different number?
Because the number the caller dialed could not send texts. HighLevel's Missed Call Text Back article says the feature tries the dialed number first and, when that number is not eligible to send SMS, falls back in a fixed order: a number that has already texted the contact successfully, then the location's default outbound number, then any other eligible number in the location. Call tracking numbers, number pools and toll-free numbers that have not passed verification are the examples HighLevel gives, since they can take calls without being cleared to send texts.
Nothing needs switching on, because the fallback is automatic whenever the feature is enabled. The catch is recognition: a customer may not link a text from an unfamiliar number to the business they just rang, so put the business name in the first words of the message. A fallback text is billed like any other, at $0.00747 per segment plus the carrier fee.
How do I stop GoHighLevel texting the same caller several times?
Replace the Settings switch with a workflow. HighLevel's Missed Call Text Back article says the switch sends a text for every missed call, even when one person rings several times in a short space of time, and it recommends customizing the missed-call recipe in Workflows instead. Its suggestions are a wait step of around 20 minutes, or tags such as 1st call and 2nd call that let the workflow treat repeat attempts differently.
HighLevel's article on the Call Status trigger, which it now titles Call details, adds that the trigger fires on each status change of a call, so add a condition or cooldown that lets each caller through once. When the workflow is live, turn the Settings switch off: HighLevel's WhatsApp equivalent lists overlapping text-back settings and workflows as a cause of duplicate messages. Every duplicate that gets through costs $0.00747 per segment plus the carrier fee.
Can GoHighLevel missed call text back work with my existing business number?
Yes, as long as calls to that number reach HighLevel's phone system, which happens when your carrier forwards them to a GoHighLevel number or when you port the number itself into HighLevel. HighLevel's call forwarding article gives carrier codes for forwarding only unanswered and busy calls: *71 followed by the HighLevel number on Verizon Wireless, Xfinity Mobile and Spectrum Mobile, and **61*1 plus the number and # on T-Mobile. Its Google Business Profile integration takes another route, putting the HighLevel number in the listing's primary slot, moving your existing number to the secondary slot and passing calls through to it.
Keeping your own number has a long-term advantage, since HighLevel's Terms release numbers bought through the platform within 14 days of cancellation. Test with a call from another phone, and avoid two numbers that forward to each other. The HighLevel number costs $1.15 a month, and each minute HighLevel forwards to another US number costs $0.02.
Can I use a toll-free number for missed call text back in GoHighLevel?
Yes, once the number has passed toll-free verification. HighLevel's A2P campaign guide describes toll-free messaging as a separate verification process that does not rely on A2P 10DLC brand and campaign registration, and its error guide says texts from an unverified toll-free number fail with error 30032. Until verification is approved, Missed Call Text Back does not simply give up: HighLevel's article says it sends from another eligible number in the location, such as an A2P-verified local number, when one exists.
On GoHighLevel's phone system, toll-free numbers rent at $2.15 a month against $1.15 for local ones, and each incoming minute on a toll-free number costs $0.0198 rather than $0.01165. The per-segment rate for texts is the same $0.00747 on both number types, though HighLevel's cost article notes that carrier fees vary by number type.
What should a missed call text back message say?
Name the business first, acknowledge the missed call and offer one next step, all within 160 plain characters so the text bills as a single segment. HighLevel's prefilled message for the WhatsApp version follows that pattern: it gives the location's name, says the business just missed the call and asks how it can help.
Three GoHighLevel details shape the wording. Any emoji switches the text to Unicode, which fits only 70 characters per segment. A merge field for the caller's name fills in only when HighLevel already knows the contact, so the message has to read naturally without it. And HighLevel's A2P campaign guide wants sample messages that identify the sender and include opt-out wording, so ending with a line such as "Reply STOP to opt out" keeps the live text in line with what you registered. If the message carries a booking link, declare links in the campaign's message details.
Can GoHighLevel reply to missed calls on WhatsApp instead of SMS?
Yes. HighLevel has a separate Missed Call WhatsApp Back setting in the same place as the SMS one, under Settings, Phone System, Voice, then Voicemail & Missed Call Text Back. It needs a WhatsApp-enabled number connected to the sub-account, and the message arrives only if the caller uses WhatsApp, so HighLevel suggests keeping the SMS version or a fallback workflow for everyone else.
The WhatsApp integration is billed at $10 a month per sub-account where it is switched on, plus a charge for each delivered message that varies with the country and the message category; in the US, a utility template costs $0.0036 and a marketing template $0.0263. HighLevel's missed-call WhatsApp article does not say which category its message counts as. Pick one channel as the main reply, because HighLevel's troubleshooting list points to overlapping SMS text-back or workflows when the same caller gets duplicate messages.
